5 Signs It’s Time to Look for a New Job

It’s no secret that workforce norms are changing. From a significant increase in work-from-home policies, to a better focus on work/life balance, companies and their employees are driving a major shift in the labor force. Gone are the times when individuals would land a job in a specific field and stick with it all the way through to retirement, often remaining loyal to one or two companies throughout their entire career.

Many Millennials and Gen-Z employees view their careers through a different lens, looking for frequent change and opportunities for growth. And often, that means shaking things up and knowing when it’s time to move on to something new. But, how do you know when that time has come? Here are five tell-tale signs that it may be time to look for a new opportunity.

  1. You don’t see any opportunity for further growth - If your employer isn’t providing you with room to learn and grow, start looking for a company that will value your desire to cultivate your skillset and advance your career.

  2. You’re always the smartest person in the room - If you find yourself feeling this way at every morning meeting, it might be best to start looking for something new and challenging.

  3. The “Sunday scaries” have become the “every single night scaries” - Finding yourself spending every evening dreading the next work day? Do yourself a favor and find a position that doesn’t make you want to hit snooze one hundred times each morning.

  4. You’re “Quietly Quitting” - If you’ve bought into the “quiet quitting” phenomenon, then you may be completely wasting your time and talents. Work/life balance is of course important, but if you can’t find an ounce of excitement or motivation in your current role, it’s time to take action and move on.

  5. You want to make a career change - Can’t seem to stop thinking about that dream job in a completely different field? It may be time to start researching the next steps to make it happen!
