Over the first several weeks of this calendar year, EVF Management conducted a series of surveys pushed out to our LinkedIn followers. In doing so, we gained invaluable insights into what matters most to job seekers in 2024. Let’s shed some light on the current mindset of those looking to make career moves this year.

  1. Compensation: The Ultimate Dealbreaker
    Unsurprisingly, inadequate compensation emerged as the biggest dealbreaker for job seekers. In a competitive job market, fair and commensurate salary remains a top priority for individuals evaluating job offers. Employers need to recognize the significance of providing competitive compensation packages to attract and retain top talent.

  2. Company Culture: A Decisive Factor
    Our findings show that four out of five job seekers value company culture when considering a job offer, albeit to varying degrees. A positive work environment, aligned values, and opportunities for growth and collaboration are crucial aspects that candidates consider when assessing potential employers. Building a strong and inclusive company culture is not just a buzzword; it's a fundamental driver for attracting and keeping talent.

  3. Remote/Hybrid Flexibility: A Rarely-Negotiable Benefit
    In a post-pandemic world, remote and hybrid work arrangements have become increasingly desirable for job seekers. Assuming healthcare options are provided, the next most important benefit for current job seekers is the flexibility to work remotely or adopt a hybrid model. This flexibility not only enhances work-life balance, but also allows professionals to thrive in environments that cater to their individual needs and preferences.

  4. 401(k)/Retirement Plans: Planning for the Future
    Beyond immediate financial compensation, job seekers place significant importance on long-term benefits such as 401(k) retirement plans. Planning for financial security and retirement readiness is a priority for many professionals, highlighting the importance of comprehensive benefits packages in attracting high-caliber employees.

  5. Job Titles: Beyond the Surface
    Contrary to conventional wisdom, job titles alone are not the be-all and end-all for many candidates. While job titles certainly carry weight, many candidates are also heavily concerned with the specific job responsibilities, growth opportunities, and alignment with their skills and interests. Employers should focus on conveying the value proposition of roles beyond just the title to attract candidates who are the right fit for the position. Conversely, they should be open to changing a job’s specific title if it means luring in top-tier professionals.
